As much as I would?ve like to have gotten off to a good start with the bankroll challenge I ended up playing against someone who put up a top 10 score (for the entire site) last night so things didn?t go as planned. I ultimately lost day one of the challenge by a score of 28 to 53.75. My goal going into this will be to average at least 30 points per day per day, although 35 would secure more victories. In any event, its only right that I continue forward with day 2 of this challenge.
Current Bankroll and Wagering Amounts
My current backroll sits at $40, and while 20% of that is $8 I am going to round up and play two heads up contests on Thursday August 11, 2011.
Team
When I originally sat down to make todays team I had every intention of making a full cap ($35k) team but after it came down to it I decided that I was going to enter into an ?expert $30k? league instead. The reason is that pitching tomorrow is essentially Justin Verlander and then everyone else, and I was unable to fit him on my 35k roster. So the team as follows is a $30k cap roster, and I used every last dollar.
P ? Joe Saunders, $6,000
I pick pitchers on teams that are in a ?winning mode? and that are heavy favorites according to vegas. Saunders fits that bill perfectly and costs just $6,000
C ? Yadier Molina, $3,100
I normally do not like spending so much money at catcher, I am usually targeting guys around the $2,500 price tag but he fit the team when it came down to catcher, and Im banking on him going on a tear now that he is back from suspension.
1B ? Jesus Guzman, $3,100
Truth be told, had Guzman been available yesterday I would?ve taken him. However FanDuel is about 2-3 days delayed in regards to updating their player pool so he was not. But he is now and the dude is on absolute fuego so far in August (10+ game hitting streak) so I am a big fan.
2B ? Jason Kipnis, $3,300
Traditionally I will not target guys that hit a home run the previous night, and I especially hate targeting players against such a solid pitcher as Verlander but this dude is red hot, 1 game HR streak, and has connected in 8 out of his last 10 contests. Lets just hope he bombs another one today.
3B ? Evan Longoria, $3,500
Longo is in the midst of a 7 game hitting streak and if the Rays want to win he needs to hit.
SS ? Edgar Renteria, $3,000
He hit a home run yesterday but that won?t stop me from taking a red hot short stop at a rock bottom price.
LF ? Josh Willingham, $3,600
Willingham is the most expensive hitter on my team, and also the biggest risk. He has homered in each of his last 3 games (and those streaks don?t last long), as well as gotten a hit in 8 out of 10. Can he go 4 in a row? We?ll see.
CF ? Nyjer Morgan, $3,100
I love Nyjer, couple that with a 4 game hitting streak and hes mine, plus the price tag is just right.
RF ? Torii Hunter, $3,300
Hunter is on an 8 game hitting streak and has hit .255 with 2 home runs in 46 at bats against Colon. Sign me up.
So there we have it
For those of you who are new to all of this the expert games have the same exact scoring as the regular games, the salary caps are just a bit smaller. I like this team and think it has as good a chance as anyone to put up solid numbers in tomorrows events.
Be advised that I picked this team on Wednesday night and will not have time to check the lineups before the first pitch is thrown on Thursday so their is a chance that one or more of my players will not suit up tomorrow. If thats the case you just have to chalk it up as a loss but it is what it is.
